At a pre-Memorial Day dinner hosted last night by joint American veteran associations, President Halima Ahmed startled the pro-military crowd when she proposed her plan to drastically cut defense spending and manpower over the course of the next six months. The stunned gathering listened in disbelief as the President rolled our her radical new plan.   First, Ahmed revealed her intent to negotiate an accelerated peace settlement between North Korea and South Korea. The plan calls for an immediate reunification of the two warring nations.

By her assessment, Ahmed sees a “win-win” for both nations through consolidation.  With the South’s commerce and the North’s untapped natural resources, both countries will reap the benefits from a joint governing body.  The President stated that secret negotiations had taken place between the three nations over the previous two months; and that while both nations were initially suspicious of the other’s motives, much progress had been achieved within the past few weeks.  A tentative agreement was now on the table and the final sticking points were being ironed out by the two sides.

Ahmed stressed that American diplomats had served only as mediators from the start; and that the real negotiations had been worked out by the two neighboring nations. When asked, the President admitted that both nations were given notice of the proposed American military withdraw which was to be initiated with the formal signing of the consolidation pact.  And yes, she did believe the withdrawal of American forces was a motivating factor in the agreement.  Initially, the withdrawal served as an advantage for the North; but after realizing the economic potential, the advantage seem to level out evenly between the two sides.

Next, the President informed the crowd that the United States would be terminating our commitment to NATO.  Both Ahmed and her newly appointed Secretary of Defense Roland Rothschild feel the multi-nation alliance is outdated; and no longer necessary as a deterrent for peace in Europe. And not only a termination of the NATO agreement; but all remaining military alliances around the world.

All foreign U S airbases and naval facilities will be turned over to the host nation.  All non-combat aircraft and sea vessels, non-nuclear munitions, support and communications equipment, and other real property will remain with the host installation. The same guidelines will be in place for most Army facilities. The exception will be that NATO, not the host nation, will assume control of all abandoned assets.  All mechanized vehicles and small arms will remain at the current locations.

Ahmed estimates the total troop reduction will fluctuate at near seventy-five to eighty percent of the current troop strength – with an estimated budgetary savings of over 5.5 trillion dollars over the next ten years.  The President concluded by saying that the massive savings in defense spending will allow these funds to be redirected toward the rebuilding of America’s deteriorating infrastructure and give birth to hundreds of thousands of well paying jobs – a proposal which she hopes to unveil over the next few weeks. . . . .
